Mark A. Kon

Dear Minister Ergun,

I have been appalled to hear about the shameful treatment of the Feza Gursey Institute (FGI) in Istanbul. This has been a leading institution in the world in Physics and Mathematical research, representing an achievement extending the past leadership of Turkey in the world of physics and science. To essentially close down such a remarkable scientific institution in your nation is an action that is difficult for me to understand.

Please ask your government and TUBITAK to reconsider this action, which to me can only be accounted for by a misunderstanding of the past and hopefully future role of Turkey in the world stage of science. Why would anyone want to dismantle one of the crown jewels of your country’s state of scientific achievement?

Please ask TUBITAK and the Turkish government to have this action reconsidered!

Respectfully submitted,
